Canada's "anti-spam" legislation is coming into effect, as of July 1, 2014, and it places a considerable burden on small to medium sized businesses. Now that we are going to have 'cleaner' emails, it's time to have 'cleaner' mailboxes as well. Do you know that you can stop the delivery of Ad-mail items to your home or business?

What is ad-mail? Addressed Ad-mail is advertising material specifically targeting a person, group or business by address, and it's considered one of the highest repose forms of Direct Mail, as it specifically targets a person, or demographic.

HOW TO STOP AD-MAIL?

Contact the 'Canadian Marketing Association' (Formerly 'Canadian Direct Marketing Association') and get your name off advertisers lists.  They called it the 'mailer preference service' in the past.   Canadian Marketing Association does not own, compile or rent lists of consumer names and addresses. CMA is a private trade association funded by members.

1) By internet:
http://www.the-cma.org/consumers/do-not-contact
Simply follow the instructions.

2) By phone:  General Inquiries:  In Ontario.
416-391-2362
Outside Ontario: 1-866-580-3625 Do Not Contact List. (DNCL).
E-Mail:  donotcontact@the-cma.org

3) By mail:
Do Not Contact List, Canadian Direct Marketing.
1 Concorde Gate, Ste 607
Don Mills, ON M3C 3N6

Simply give your names, address, any other addresses with your name or postal box.  Say something similar to this:  'Please ensure I am not contacted and my name is not used for advertising purposes'.

WHAT ABOUT THE FLYERS (Unaddressed Ad-mail)?

Canada Post complies with NO FLYER signs at personal residences in Canada.  Problem is, they only deliver 23% of those. Just place a NO FLYER note or sticker in or on your mailbox stating that you do not wish to receive Unaddressed Admail.
